Once relegated to your grandmother’s windowsill, succulents have seen a resurgence in popularity over the last few years as houseplants, in general, have seen a boost in popularity.

Straw bale gardening is perhaps one of the simplest and most intuitive gardening methods I’ve come across. It is a great choice for small, backyard gardens. However, this gardening method is also bringing hope and food security to people all over the world.

When it comes to watering plants, there’s really only three options - too much, too little, or just right … but there’s the rub.  Just like with light and temperature requirements, all plants are different.  Some plants, like succulents, can get by with pretty dry soil and some aquatic plants literally live in water.  There’s a whole spectrum of water needs in between.

Soil is one of the keys to growing great plants.  Sure they need water and light, but without soil most plants would die.  In the Bible man was made of the dust of the Earth.  We are composed 100% of material that came from a plant or something that ate a plant … and those plants came from soil.
