2021 Home Design Trends

2020 impacted everyone and everything.  In the year that didn’t want to end, we were venturing into the unknown every. single. day.  We all wanted a safe, comfortable refuge.  With some of us being home for extended periods of time, home trends in 2021 will show the effects of 2020.

Introducing Grandmillennial Style

If you’re in your 20s to 30s, think back to your grandparent’s house in the 1980s to 1990s.  Unless they were interior designers, they probably had some stuff from previous decades.  An afghan that your great aunt made, floral wallpaper, maybe some blue and white Churchill plates.  Grandmillennial style is all about bringing that cozy chintz into the 2020s.

Until 2020, this type of style was considered “stuffy” or “outdated”.  Now it reminds us of better times, safer times.  Along those same lines and influenced by everyone being stuck at home … together, the venerated open floor plans that have been a staple of home improvement shows for the last decade are now going by the wayside in favor of traditional layouts.  Sometimes you just need your own space.

Over the last couple years houseplants have become insanely popular.  So much so that we saw prices spike as supply chains strained to meet demand.  Varieties that once graced the windowsills and plant stands of our grandparents became popular again.  This year that trend is expected to continue as millennials turn their homes into conservatories.  MORE Plants!
